I feel as if I could speak for many young people around the world as to why it is so easy to fall in love with not only Lana's music, but her individuality and her as a human being. She has completely created her own niche genre of music that incorporates a plethora of instruments and sounds. Not quite indie, not quite acoustic, and sometimes not even quite trap, Lana Del Rey sits perfectly and prettily somewhere in the middle.

In perfectly combining a variety of genres across her albums, Lana stands out from other female artists and is blatantly, unapologetically weird. As for her lyrics, which are simultaneously alluring, melancholic and haunting, but depending on the album stick to a common theme, are incredibly ethereal.

By alluding to pop culture references from the 50's and 60's, (pictured in the photo to the right, Lana imitating the legendary Hedy Lemarr's iconic outfit at the 2018 Grammy's) and exploring the themes of tragic romance and old Hollywood glamour using both her voice and poetry, Lana del Rey is truly unlike any other female artist in the industry, which is why I think that she is the coolest, and is why I am here today.

Why Lana Del Rey?

I still remember the first day I heard Lana Del Rey on the radio back in 2015. It was the beginning of some of the most transformative years of my life, as I was about to enter my freshman year of high school, and I was finally to the age where I was able to form my own strong opinion on music and the world around me. This was a period where I figured out what I liked and what I didn't like, who I liked and didn't like.

Growing up, I always had an issue with trying to fit in with everyone else, almost as if I wasn't confident in being my own individual person. As soon as I heard Young and Beautiful on the radio that summer day, my life was forever changed. Since then, Lana's music has provided an outlet for me to truly express myself, and as a young girl, she taught me that being different, and maybe even a little bit weird, is totally okay.

I vividly remember diving into all of her albums headfirst, at the time not sure of what I was getting into. Soon after that, I discovered Mermaid Motel, a Youtube account that emphasizes her aesthetic, and then finally, a huge vault of unreleased songs on Soundcloud. And here I am today, 6 years later, listening to Honeymoon, her fourth studio album, while I type this. Lana del Rey has had an insane influence on my life as I know it today, so I'm hoping that this website inspires you to get into her music or just even get to know her impact, history and rise to fame.
