History

& The rise to fame

Born and raised in New York, Lizzie Grant, or better known now for her stage name Lana Del Rey, had always been a girl with a passion for life and poetry. Post graduation from Fordham University back in 2005, she began her music career in NYC speakeasies and bars, releasing her first ever EP Kill Kill in 2008. Despite her efforts, stardom didn’t arrive until her 2011 single “Video Games” and 2012 debut album Born to Die, which was a  commercial success. BTD skyrocketed her to fame and was number one in 11 countries as well as debuting at number two on the US Billboard 200 album chart. In 2013, Lana released an original song, Young and Beautiful, that was featured on the Great Gatsby soundtrack, furthering her stardom.

In the spotlight ...

Del Rey released her third studio album, and a personal favorite of mine, Ultraviolence on June 13, 2014,  which sold 880,000 copies worldwide in its first week. Ultraviolence has been described as cinematic and dark, while some critics labeled the record as psychedelic, and primarily desert-rock influenced. Soon after, Honeymoon, her fourth album, was released in 2015, receiving praise from critics worldwide. Del Rey's fifth studio album, Lust for Life, was released on July 21, 2017. The album was preceded by the singles "Love", "Lust for Life" with the Weeknd; "Summer Bummer" with A$AP Rocky and Playboi Carti; and "Groupie Love", also with Rocky.

Later years ...

In August of 2019, Lana released her highly anticipated 6th studio album, Norman Fucking Rockwell. In his review for Rolling Stone, Rob Sheffield wrote "the long-awaited Norman Fucking Rockwell is even more massive and majestic than everyone hoped it would be. Lana turns her fifth and finest album into a tour of sordid American dreams, going deep cover in all our nation's most twisted fantasies of glamour and danger.” On March 19, 2021, Del Rey released her seventh studio album, Chemtrails over the Country Club, closely followed by her eighth studio album, Blue Banisters, which was released on October 22, 2021.
